I released Sleeping With the Light On in January 2023. It started out as a song about loving someone who was going through a really hard time and knowing that you can’t really save someone if they aren’t ready to save themselves. I think, at one time or another, we’ve all loved someone who is stuck, who is battling with their own history and trying to make sense of it.
It’s so hard to feel helpless while they struggle, so this song is full of emotions about watching someone and wishing there was more you could do.
But while writing it, it brought back the memories and feelings of my own struggles, and it ended up turning into a really beautiful and healing song for me.
